My friend and I came here for a weekday dinner and were seated immediately. Most of the restaurant has a woody interior, and we sat in a slightly isolated area with a wooden booth. The menu was through a QR code, and I ordered the Shiromaru Classic ramen with an egg. My friend ordered the Miso ramen. Our order came out quickly, and my friend and I finished our delicious orders quickly. The broth was not too salty, and I enjoyed the texture of the noodles. I wish there was slightly more pork, and this is the first time I would note that a portion size at Ippudo is quite small (I am full or have leftovers 95% of the time at other restaurants). My friend ended up having to order extra noodles for his broth. The quality of the ramen here is great; I just wish their portions were slightly bigger!
Ok Ippudo in Cupertino is something to try out. After all the hype from Tokyo has been significant. So I just had to try it out. Anyways to begin with the parking situation is difficult. There are many stores in the area that are quite popular so it may take a few minutes to find a spot. The restaurant itself was quite small probably about 15 tables. However there are bar seating that add to size of the restaurant. Service was pretty quick and the menu is accessed from a QR code. I ordered the gyoza as appetizer and the Akamaru Modern Ramen. The order took about 6 minutes to arrive. The taste of the broth was very good but I felt it was a touch too salty. Just a touch. The noodles were the thin kind which I love and they were perfectly cooked. The gyoza was also well done with a crispy bottom and quite tasty. Overall a very nice meal. The restaurant was very well decorated and comfortable. This is definitely one of my goto options for a ramen restaurant.
The last and only time I've had Ippudo was in New York and I remembered not liking it very much, so I never felt the urge to try it again back in the Bay. Well my friend was recently visiting over Christmas and we really wanted to get karaage, so we ended up here. Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised and this might be my new go to ramen spot in South Bay! First off - the karaage. This was some top tier karaage! Nice and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It came with a mentaiko mayo dipping sauce which was great - mayo dipping sauces are my fave kind to go with the karaage. Next - the gyoza. Pretty standard, not super memorable, but I remember it was good. Finally - the karaka spicy ramen. Normally I prefer thicker, chewier noodles but the thin noodles here were actually not bad. It came with a decent amount of meat and I add an egg which was nice and jammy. The thing that made it worthy of going back was that the broth was nice and savory but not too heavy and didn't get too sweet like some other ramen spots in South Bay.
Bustling spot in Main Street Cupertino. The food is good here, but value is a touch off. Great: Akamaru Modern Ramen - The broth for this one is delicious. They've got a really good blend of tonkotsu and fragrant oil to make this a rich soup. Noodles are good. The egg was cold on the interior unfortunately, maybe the soup wasn't hot enough to warm up the entirety. Chicken Karaage - really juicy and tender. The mentai mayo is a great accompaniment! Some of the crispy breading was a bit thicker which made it a bit hard to chew on in some parts. Overall really good. My 1 significant gripe about this place is that it's a bit pricy especially for the portion. Each ramen hovers around 20 bucks without the extras like egg. The portion size is definitely on the smaller side, I suppose to reflect their Japanese origins. The meat portion in each one is 2 paper thin slices of chashu. While the food is very good, I'm still not sure it's worth the price since I left feeling a tad unsatisfied. Service was pretty good, but they seemed understaffed so it was a mission for them to keep up with customers. Definitely worth a try if you like ramen. I wouldn't say it's the best value though.
Ippudo is a bit pricey but you get a generous portion of food. The Karaage was tender and crispy! The ramen was also flavorful and had a healthy helping of ramen. I'm partial to the marinaded egg. The food came out pretty quick after we ordered.
Highly recommend coming in before dinner prime time. We got in around 6 and got seated within 10 minutes. We quickly put in our order because the place got packed within 20 mins around ~6:30pm. Service was okay, we did ask for a water refill several times.. the servers seem to be running around trying to take orders and paying attention to the newly seated tables. Food was good and came out piping hot. I typically don't enjoy ramen as much because it tends to be too rich in flavor and fills me up too quickly that I can't even finish a bowl. But the ramen broth flavor was just enough and the noodles were cooked well. Also, the appetizers chicken karaage and edamame are great items to share.
Was craving for a bowl of ramen. Noticed that there are many different flavors of ramen now, previously there were only a few options available. Got the : Karage - freshly fried, dark chicken served with aoli and a slice of lemon. The Karage was tasty and hot and is a perfect appetizer Akamara modern - tonkatsu broth with garlic oil, and thin noodles. Tasty and savory. Wish the noodles were a little more firm though but still good. $19 Spicy miso - husband ordered this one. This one comes with thicker curly noodles and the broth definitely has a kick. He thought the Akamara broth tasted better but liked the thicker noodles in his. $26 Overall, the meal itself was enjoyable. The bowls itself are not super big. I felt just right, so if you really like a lot of noodles, I would order extra noodles in the bowl.
Temperatures have dropped and we were craving a hot bowl of soupy noodles. It also happened to be meatless Saturday so our options were limited. Ippudo has a quite a few vegan options which looked enticing so we decided to check them out. About 30-35% of their menu is vegan which is amazing. We had around 4 ramen options to choose from and we got two of them. We asked our waiter to suggest one of the two we shortlisted but he said both were equally good so we got them both- Nirvana karaka - this one was luxuriously creamy. There was spicy sauce offering on the side. Flavors were complex and it was delicious. Spicy vege miso - this came with the same spicy sauce as a topping. Though equally delicious, the karaka was a smidgeon better in my opinion. Chicken karaage rice bowl- perfectly cooked chicken topped on a moist bowl of rice with iceberg lettuce, spring onions and some sauce. The sauce was surprisingly not sweet and tied all the elements together beautifully. This was for the kids and they cleaned it up in no time. The ramen bowls are relatively smaller compared to other places, just about sufficient for one person.
